Ok, we're going to do things a little differently around here. UV has shrunk to a very small community compared to the dozens upon dozens of active users we used to have and so we (yes,
we) are going to change the way things happen around here. You probably already saw that our staff team has shrunk as well to one admin and two mods, which should be enough for now. Other changes are the rules, for starters Forum and RP rules have been merged into one topic. The rules themselves have also been adjusted, you can read what exactly has changed in the post below the rules. There will probably be more changes in an attempt to shorten that big list. You can go to them directly
here.
Now to explain in short what will be changing: Moderators are going to take a step back from making sure everybody follows the rules, and instead members will be expected to help each other instead. When for example somebody forgets to tag a RP thread for adult material then the other RPers in that thread are supposed to make the first poster aware of this, or if this person is no longer active to get a staff member to do it. Another example in RP is if somebody starts to RP in god-mode then it'll be up to his/her fellow players to make them aware of this and that it is not allowed, or to let a mod do it for them if they are a bit shy. If they don't and staff finds out, then the one breaking the rules will get a warning and all the nasty consequences of such a thing. (Staff will always give members a chance to fix mistakes themselves before stepping though.) Why? Because we're in this together and thus should help each other, all members, old and new. No police state, everybody takes a bit of the responsibility to run this place together.
There will also be an option for people to indeed do some bad RP like god-mode, take over a character, or whatever else, but
only with the permission of
all the other RPers active in that thread. This permission must be voiced by the members themselves, never by proxi, in that thread itself, in OOC comments (to make it easier for staff to check if they all agree with what is going on). This will give people more freedom, and adjust the RP to the tastes of the current people in the thread, meaning that it can be whatever they want it to be, serious or ridiculous and everything in between, provided everybody in the thread agrees with it. In other words, you can bend certain rules, but with permission of the ones involved.
Joining procedure: first of all this only applies to the Edge as local communities have been removed due to lack of interest/activity. If people want to create a group of some kind, whether by species or mutual interest, they are welcome to do so themselves ^_^ Gangs, herds, packs, guilds, it's all allowed, you don't even need permission from me, lol.
Second, we are going back to the old slogan we've had since day 1: you can create anything you want, minus a human, to RP with. This once more includes whatever unbalanced character people find attractive to play as their own. Like the first generations at UV people are once more allowed to learn from their own mistakes and discover for themselves what they can and can not create and still play within the rules of UV. New characters will still need to apply at the Edge first though and RP there until accepted by staff (there are no separate Edge moderators anymore), but for obvious reasons acceptance should be easier and faster. Ridiculously overpowered and copyrighted characters are still not allowed though, sorry, gotta draw the line somewhere, lol. And all fields in the profile must still be filled out.
And finally, rules will be tailored according to the members individually. So basically everybody starts out with a lot of freedom to do whatever they want, but with every mistake they make and don't fix with the help of other members, they will be approached and given a warning that they must abide by, whether this warning/restriction is on RP or OOC business depends on the person and situation. So if they really don't learn they will end up with a lot of restrictions. The most obvious example will be people with unbalanced characters, if they for example just add on some ability because it's convenient they will be tagged for it and won't be allowed to do so again. If however the person with the unbalanced character proves to be responsible and manages to creatively RP the character within the rules, they will be free to continue without hinder.
In short, if you follow the very first rule of UV: "Respect each other and each other's characters." you just can't go wrong ^_^
I think that's pretty much it. If you've got questions/complaints, then let me know! ^_^ Also, these rules will start
now, so if you didn't already for some reason, pay attention to the rules because you're your own mod now ^_~
